The first namaz-e-janaza of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) leader Moinuddin Khan Badal has been held on the premises of Jatiya Sangsad in Dhaka.

The funeral prayer was held at 10:00am on Saturday with the presence of a number of dignitaries.

A huge number of people including ministers, chief whip, whips, lawmakers, senior leaders of different political parties and officials and employees of the JS attended the janaza.

A smartly turned out contingent of police gave the state salute, while bugle played the last post on the occasion.

Later, a munajat seeking eternal peace of the departed soul was offered. The Pesh Imam of the Jatiya Sangsad Mosque conducted the munajat.

Later, the body will be taken to Chattogram by road due bad weather and second funeral prayer will be held after Asar at Darul Falah Mosque in the port city, according to family source.

After second funeral prayer, deceased will be buried at native of Boalkhali near parents’ graveyard.

Earlier, the body of Badal, a Member of Parliament from Chattogram-8 constituency, arrived in Dhaka on Friday night.

The deceased body carrier flight of AirIdia arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 9:00 pm.

He was 67 years old and suffering from various diseases for several days. Moinuddin Khan Badal has been seriously ill since he suffered a brain stroke two years ago. He also had heart problems.

Born in 1952 at the village of Saroyatoli in Boalkhali upazila in Chittagong, Moinuddin Khan Badal started politics with Chhatra League. In 1971 he actively took part in the liberation war of Bangladesh.

Moinuddin Khan Badal was one of the leaders of the resistance in unloading weapons for attacking Bangladeshi’s from Swat vessel from Pakistan at Chattogram port during the liberation war.

The veteran politician Moinuddin Khan Badal died on early Thursday while undergoing treatment at the Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences (NICS) at Bangalore in India.
